THE SATURDAY (S)CEREAL: = “Aylmer 100 Years Ago”
(From the Aylmer Express, April 1910)
“At the request of the Pastor of the Methodist (United) Church in Aylmer, ladies were being asked to remove their hats during the service. Said the Express: “He is hoping for a free and cheerful response…..It will seem a little strange at first but think of the pleasure it will give to others…..No one would think of going to the opera and leaving a hat on.” The Express then reported that “with the exception of a few older ladies and those who neglected to comb their hair before” , the experiment went well. The Express added: “Now it is up to the men to make good by more regular attendance.”
