” AYLMER’S CLOVERMEAD WINS ONTARIO MARKETING AWARD”
(Info supplied by Chris Hiemstra of Clovermead Apiaries, Aylmer)
“We received Ontario’s 2010 Farm Marketer of the Year Award. It is an annual award, given by the Ontario Farm Fresh Marketing Association, to a farm which is demonstrating outstanding marketing success. This is measured in terms of value added products, growth in customers and income, unique market ambiance, innovative displays, creative advertising, involvement within farm related organizations, and willingness to share ideas within the industry. The prize is two all inclusive spots on the 2010 OFFMA bus tour, industry recognition, and the potential to showcase our farm. We feel very blessed to receive the award because it is an honour to know that our peers are watching and cheering us on. Our success has come from loyal customers in our community. Some of our customers can remember buying honey here, from my parents, when I was 5 years old, that is community support. In 2010 we will be celebrating 35 years of our family’s beekeeping business here at our farm.
Regarding marketing strategy, we have been trying to sell the majority of our honey from our store so that we can be a sustainable family farm business. Over the past six years we have been adding educational experiences where people can learn more about the amazing world of honey bees and have fun on the farm visiting farm animals and enjoying family activities. It has been a marketing strategy we have used to compete with China and low commodity prices.”
